Set Yourself Apart
Let music and percussion become a part of who you are—something dynamic and expressive that truly belongs to you. With the right approach, learning doesn’t have to take years, and it’s not as complicated as you might think.
But let’s be honest. In our decades of teaching, we’ve yet to see another program, teacher, or online course that truly helps students develop real musical fluency. Most lesson programs claim to have a “better method,” yet their approach has barely changed in centuries. Some students manage to stick with them for a while, but most don’t—leaving drumming as just another activity they tried and moved on from.
The key to success isn’t just hours of practice. And while there’s no magic shortcut, there is a smarter way to learn. If you want to play drums or percussion with confidence—really play, where people say, “Wow, you’ve got serious rhythm!”—develop solid technique, and read music effortlessly, we’ll show you how to reach your goals… and then go beyond them!

The Benefits of Playing Percussions
Drumming is more than just making noise—it’s about coordination, timing, and musical expression. Playing percussion improves focus, strengthens motor skills, and develops a natural sense of rhythm that carries over into all areas of life. It’s also a great way to relieve stress, build confidence, and connect with others through music. Whether you’re playing in a band, drumming for fun, or pursuing serious musical study, percussion is an exciting and rewarding skill that lasts a lifetime.
What's a Lesson Like?
Our lessons are designed for independent learning, so students aren’t reliant on the teacher to play everything for them. Instead, they develop the skills to practice effectively, master each song, and build confidence in their playing. Every student learns at their own pace, understanding their personal practice goals and how to achieve them.
Lessons are available as 30- and 45-minute weekly one-on-one sessions, with ensemble and group options available. Each student follows an individualized lesson plan—ensuring no one is held back or pushed ahead by others.
To set your child up for a successful musical journey, we highly recommend enrollment in our Accelerated Piano Program prior to beginning private instruction in any instrument. Positioning a piano-based approach ahead of one-on-one private instruction provides a strong musical foundation and superior reading skills while maintaining the motivation that comes with learning alongside peers. In fact, our students make faster progress and stick with lessons longer compared to traditional private lessons, and transition easily into playing other instruments.

FAQs
How long do I have to commit to lessons? Is there a contract?
Learning to play a musical instrument is like learning a new language -- and it's a journey. However, while we hope that you'll love our lessons so much that you'll take forever, we do not ask our families to sign a contract for any specific length of time. Lessons simply continue on a month-to-month basis. We do ask that new families to read and sign our studio policies regarding procedure, payments, and the calendar, prior to beginning lessons.
Do I need an instrument at home?
Yes. You'll need a drum pad and sticks at home to get started, and your teacher can provide suggestions on increasing the size of your drum kit at home, as needed. If you don't already own a pad or drum kit, and you need guidance finding one, we're happy to assist.
Is your Lesson Program a group setting?
No. Drum and Percussion lessons are currently offered as one-on-one 30-minute weekly sessions. However, to set your child up for a successful musical journey, we highly recommend enrollment in our Accelerated Piano Program prior to beginning private instruction in any instrument. Are parents allowed to sit in on lessons? Do parents have to be present during lessons?
Of course, parents are always allowed to be with their children during lessons, if they wish. We have an open door policy at The Music Studio. There is also a waiting area separate from the classrooms, for convenience. However, if you need to run errands or get siblings to other activities, drop and go is OK, too.
How do I get my child to practice at home?
Again, we strongly recommend enrolling in our Accelerated Piano-Based Program prior to seeking out one-on-one instruction in any instrument. The Accelerated format focuses on solving the problem of home practice. In "traditional" lessons, a significant set back can be the lack of confidence students have in their abilities, and therefore unwillingness to practice on their own at home (in other words, practice feels like work). Our not-so-traditional accelerated program strengthens their reading skills, and develops a sense of confidence and independence that leaves our students feeling accomplished and excited about music. Here are some of the benefits:
What if I have to miss a lesson?
We try to be as flexible as possible, and offer the option of rescheduling into one of our small group accelerated piano sessions should your child need to miss a lesson (even if they've never had piano lessons, this is an option!), and make up lessons done this way can be easily scheduled through our online calendar link. However, each private lesson instructor maintains their own studio policies with regard to private lesson make-ups, so parents must arrange additional lesson time directly with the teacher.
