Set Yourself Apart
Let music and guitar/banjo become a part of who you are—something unique and special that truly belongs to you. With the right approach, learning doesn't take years, and it’s not as difficult as you might think.
But let’s be honest. In our 35 years of teaching, we’ve never come across another teacher, studio, or online program that truly helps students become musically fluent. Most lesson programs promise a “better method,” yet their approach hasn’t changed in 200 years. Some students manage to stick with them for a while, but most don’t—leaving music lessons as just another activity they tried and gave up on.
Surprisingly, practice isn’t the secret to success. And while there’s no gimmick or quick fix, there is a better way. If you want to play well—really well, where people say, “Wow, you’re so talented!”—progress quickly, and read music with ease (without hunting for every note), we can show you how to reach your goals… and then go beyond them!

The Benefits of Playing Guitar or Banjo
Did you know that learning to play a musical instrument is one of the few activities that simultaneously engages and stimulates both hemispheres of the brain? For dexterity, coordination, brain development--playing an instrument can't be beat! But, there are even more benefits...
- Identity & Self-Expression
- Social Connections in a Positive Musical Environment
- Confidence & Mastery
- Creativity & Fun
- Performance & Recognition
What's a Lesson Like?
Our guitar and banjo lessons are designed for independent learning, so students aren’t reliant on the teacher to play everything for them. Instead, they develop the skills to practice effectively, master each song, and build confidence in their playing. Every student learns at their own pace, understanding their personal practice goals and how to achieve them.
We offer flexible scheduling, allowing students to easily reschedule into another class if conflicts arise. Lessons take place in a one-on-one private setting, with each student following an individualized lesson plan.
To set your child up for a successful musical journey, we highly recommend enrollment in our Accelerated Piano Program prior to beginning private instruction in any instrument. Positioning a piano-based approach ahead of one-on-one private instruction provides a strong musical foundation and superior reading skills while maintaining the motivation that comes with learning alongside peers. In fact, our students make faster progress and stick with lessons longer compared to traditional private lessons.

Student Success Stories
"Look no further because you will not find another music instruction company as fantastic and as dedicated as The Music Studio!! My son is now 18 years old and started taking piano lessons at TMS when he was six years old. He was recently accepted into the college of his choice to major in music and has received multiple, competitive music scholarships totaling tens of thousands of dollars!! The incredible patience, knowledge, experience, instruction, and dedication of the music teachers at TMS are unparalleled and I will be forever so grateful for their attention to my son’s music education which has provided him with such excellent piano skills and techniques to help him achieve his dreams. Thank you everyone at TMS!! :)"

"I simply cannot put into words how much my girls are absolutely LOVING the lessons. The gentle but challenging approach is exactly what they needed/wanted. They’ve worked with I think three of the instructors and have loved every single one of them equally. They are seriously enjoying it so much and it feels so FUN to them. They are practicing soooo much every single day because it’s so fun. Cannot thank you enough for everything. It is the PERFECT fit for us. So so so thankful we found you."

FAQs
How long do I have to commit to lessons? Is there a contract?
Learning to play a musical instrument is like learning a new language -- and it's a journey. However, while we hope that you'll love our lessons so much that you'll take forever, we do not ask our families to sign a contract for any specific length of time. Lessons simply continue on a month-to-month basis. We do ask new families to read and sign our studio policies regarding procedure, payments, and the calendar, prior to beginning lessons.
Do I need an instrument at home?
Yes. You'll need a guitar or banjo that is appropriately sized for home use and to bring to each lesson. If you don't already own a guitar, and you need guidance finding one, we're happy to assist.
Is your Lesson Program for Guitar or Banjo a group setting?
No. Guitar and Banjo are currently offered as private one-on-one sessions. However, most beginning students start by enrolling in our Accelerated Lesson Program, which is piano-based, to gain a strong musical foundation, progress faster, and acquire the reading skills and coordination necessary to transition easily to any instrument.
Are parents allowed to sit in on lessons? Do parents have to be present during lessons?
Of course, parents are always allowed to be with their children during lessons, if they wish. We have an open door policy at The Music Studio. There is also a waiting area separate from the classrooms, for convenience. However, if you need to run errands or get siblings to other activities, drop and go is OK, too.
How do I get my child to practice at home?
Our Lesson Programs focus on solving the problem of home practice. In "traditional" lessons, a significant set back can be the lack of confidence students have in their abilities, and therefore unwillingness to practice on their own at home (in other words, practice feels like work). Our not-so-traditional accelerated program strengthens their reading skills, and develops a sense of confidence and independence that leaves our students feeling accomplished and excited about music. Here are some of the benefits:
What if I have to miss a lesson?
We try to be as flexible as possible, and offer the option of rescheduling into one of our small group accelerated piano sessions should your child need to miss a lesson (even if they've never had piano lessons, this is an option!), and make up lessons done this way can be easily scheduled through our online calendar link. However, each private lesson instructor maintains their own studio policies with regard to private lesson make-ups, so parents must arrange additional lesson time directly with the teacher.
