The secret to being GREAT at playing music is in a lesson design and restructure that addresses the FLAWS of old-fashioned 30-minute private lessons....and allows students to subconsciously and innately absorb music, and master those foundational skills - DURING THE LESSON!
No need to be nervous!
If you're exploring music lessons, and never had any as a child, here's a glimpse into what a lesson at The Music Studio is actually like. We want inquiring students to be excited about meeting us, and eager to play music. Our teachers are very experienced working with all ages, have music degrees, and bubbly personalities. We enjoy making new students feel safe and confident, and we like to have fun at our lessons!
Why is it called an "Accelerated Program"?
Our students move through their lesson books in half the time they would with traditional private instruction! We incorporate practice directly into the lesson, so songs are mastered before going home to practice. Students (and parents) are thrilled at how quickly they can progress from song to song!
Is this group instruction?
No. As you can see in the video below, there will be more than one student present in the room during a lesson (typically 3 to 4). However, our lessons are not collaborative, classroom-style groups, but rather private lessons being conducted at the same time. Each student works individually with a teacher, and at their own pace. Students are not held back, or pushed, based on the progress of the other students. Dual sets of headphones at each instrument keep things quiet and focused, and give students privacy so they can relax and better absorb new concepts. Similarly, for our strings lessons, we use either electric stringed instruments (with headphones) or mutes.

Time, Structure, Materials
Lessons meet once per week for 60 minutes. You'll choose a day and time slot convenient for you, and that will be your permanent lesson time throughout the year, unless you need to make a change. Classes are casual and relaxed. Students bring their music books with them to every lesson.
What instruments are offered?
Currently, we are offering only Piano Instruction. However, let us know if you're interested in Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Upright Bass), as we will be adding lessons in those instruments soon! The lesson format, time, and structure are the same for all instruments.
Will my child have a lot of homework (practice)?
No! We've taken the work out of practice, and put the confidence back in! We guide your child to learn and master songs DURING the lesson, so there's nothing "new" or difficult to practice on their own at home -- they will simply be reviewing and maintaining what they've already mastered. Furthermore, we encourage students to work independently at their own comfortable pace, so they are relaxed and absorb new music concepts easily.
What if my child has trouble focusing?
Rest assured that lessons are fun and time flies by! While our older students prefer a little intensity during their lessons, our younger students typically work in 10 to 15 minute blocks on their songs, with music theory, fun listening and rhythm exercises, and play musical games between intervals. Even our youngest students admit they are surprised when it's already time to go home!
